A woman from Dombivli who was paid to participate in a rally organised for Shrikant Shinde—two-time MP and son of CM Eknath Shinde—sustained burns after she came in contact with firecrackers during the procession. The injured woman, Annapurna Shirsat, alleges that she was abandoned after the incident and no party worker offered medical help.
The incident took place on May 2, when Shrikant Shinde, Shiv Sena Shinde group’s candidate for the Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency, filed his nomination papers. At this time, women’s self-help groups as well as youngsters were taken in buses to Dombivli with the promise of a daily allowance of Rs 200 to be a part of the crowd.
