Maharashtra clinched 29 medals at the recently concluded 36th National Junior Athletics Championships in Guwahati. This haul included eight gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze medals. Pune-based Rujula Bhonsle, 13, provided another honour for the state through a record-breaking performance in the Girls 60m category, a 7.96secs triumph that got her the best athlete award.
Rujula struck gold with a new national and state record in the U-14 section; the previous mark being KV Roshini’s 8.29secs at Ranchi in 2007.
