As the IPL mega auction entertained across two days, making millionaires out of cricketers both young and old, some viewers felt that they could have been better informed had they been told a bit more about some unknown players than simply screening statistics.
Ashish Kamble, a city-based BPO employee, said: “I’m a keen follower of Indian cricket, but even I didn’t know some of the uncapped players in the auction and only mentioning their match statistics is not enough. The auctioneer could have said a sentence or two about these players and their recent achievements. For example, Yash Dhull led India to the U-19 World Cup title recently, but when he came up for the auction, nothing was said about him. He got only his base price [Rs 50 lakh]. Had the auctioneer spoken about his World Cup feat, he may have earned more.”
