In such a huge game, like India-Pakistan, the toss plays a key role. Rohit Sharma has a very happy relationship with tosses and he won another on Saturday in Ahmedabad.
What surprised me was that India elected to bowl and as it turned out, this was the right decision. But I thought in a big game like this they would have wanted to bat first and put up 300-plus to apply pressure on the Pakistanis. They decided to bowl and it worked out superbly for them in the end. Pakistan looked good for the first 30 overs, starting well with Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq. Abdullah looks a good player—still head, nice balance at the crease, natural attacking instinct. Both openers took 20 off Mohammed Siraj’s first two overs, but then Rohit persevered with Siraj for the third over, and he got Abdullah caught, with the cross seam-held off cutter which the bowlers used a lot later on as well.
