The renaming of Sardar Patel Stadium to Narendra Modi Stadium here at Motera has taken not just the people of India by surprise but also some of the members of Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA).
In a ceremony on Wednesday morning after President Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the stadium and laid the foundation stone for the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave, Home Minister Amit Shah revealed that the world’s biggest cricket stadium has been named after the Prime Minister of India. “We were not aware that this was happening. I think only a few selected members of the GCA were aware of the renaming of this stadium. Nonetheless, it is a proud moment for us to be associated with the GCA,” a committee member told mid-day.
