Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Tuesday that the opposition introduced a no-confidence motion against his government to assess the unity of its own alliance members due to prevailing distrust within the INDIA bloc. Addressing BJP MPs during a closed-door meeting of its parliamentary party, he referred to the opposition alliance as "ghamandia" (marked by arrogance) and praised the party`s Rajya Sabha members for their "semi-final" victory in the voting on the Delhi services bill, according to sources present.
Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal quoted Modi as saying that despite the government`s strong majority, the opposition brought the no-confidence motion to gauge their alliance`s cohesion. In reference to the voting on the Delhi services bill in the Rajya Sabha, Modi emphasized that the government secured more votes than anticipated, underscoring that the bill adhered to constitutional principles.
