Manipur police cannot handle the case as they handed the two women—seen in the video of the assault—over to the rioting mob, apex court tells Centre

Over 1,000 women from Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum protest at Lamka in Churachandpur, demanding the removal of Meitei police from Moreh town in Tengnoupal district, on Monday. They fear ‘that cadres of the militant groups are embedded with police and could wreak havoc if they enter Moreh. Moreover, the majority of policemen in the district are from the majority community’. The Supreme Court Monday termed as “horrendous” the video of two women being paraded naked in Manipur and said it will not want the state police to probe the matter as they virtually handed over the women to the rioting mob.
The SC said it may constitute an SIT or a committee comprising former judges to monitor the situation in the strife-torn state, subject to hearing the law officers representing the Centre and Manipur on Tuesday.
