17 workers were killed after an under-construction railway bridge collapsed in Aizawl city of <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/Mizoram-articles" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mizoram</a> on Wednesday.
Reports said that an under-construction railway bridge collapsed near the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/mumbai-news-articles" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Sairang area</a>, about 21 km from Aizawl.
They said that several others are feared trapped at the site. At least 35 workers were present when the incident occurred at around 10 am.
&ldquo;Seventeen bodies have been recovered from the debris so far... many others are still missing,&rdquo; reports quoted a police officer as saying.
Sabyasachi De, the chief public relation officer of Northeast Frontier Railway, told ANI that a team of railway officers has been rushed to the spot and senior officials of zone will also visit the site.&nbsp;
Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga condoled the incident, saying, "Deeply saddened and affected by this tragedy."&nbsp;

"I extend my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. Sending gratitude to the people who have come out in large numbers to help with rescue operations," CM Zoramthanga said in a post on X.&nbsp;
