A 42-year-old man allegedly killed his wife following domestic quarrel in Maharashtra`s <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/thane-articles" rel="nofollow">Thane</a> district, an official said on Tuesday, according to news agency PTI.
The incident took place on Monday at the couple`s house at Manjarli in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/-badlapur-articles" rel="nofollow">Badlapur </a>area and the man was later arrested, he told PTI.
The accused and his 37-year-old wife used to have frequent fights over domestic issues and the man also doubted her character, an official from Badlapur police station said. The couple had a quarrel on Sunday following which the police had registered a non-cognisable offence against both of them, he said.
On Monday, the man and his wife consumed liquor and again had a fight. Later, the accused allegedly strangulated her to death, the official said.
The accused then sent a message on the phone of his wife`s brother staying in neighbouring Mumbai that he had killed her, he said. The woman`s brother alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and found the woman lying dead in the house, the official said, adding the body was sent to a government hospital for postmortem.
The accused, who was present in the house, was arrested and booked under Indian Penal Code Section 302 (murder), the police said.
In a separate case, Thane Rural police have busted a gang that used king cobras to murder its victims. During an investigation with regard to a decomposed corpse that was discovered in a field, the Shahapur cops found that though the deceased&rsquo;s throat was slit, he had been exposed to a serpent. The man had lent R16 lakh to one of the accused. After arresting the alleged culprits, the cops learnt that the gang of six had also borrowed Rs 25 lakh from a person in Padgha and killed him in a similar manner but made it look seem like a road accident. The main conspirator is still at large. On June 4, Kalyan East resident Deva Naidu, 22, registered a missing person complaint at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/mumbai-police-articles" rel="nofollow">Kolsewadi police</a>&nbsp;station after his father Gopal, 62, was nowhere to be found. According to Deva, his father, a retired ticket checker, left their house around 9 am on June 3. On June 11, a corpse was found in the field of one Arun Farde at Dhasai village, which is within the jurisdiction of the Shahapur police. The Kolsewadi cops asked Naidu&rsquo;s family to examine the body, which they did on June 12.
