Rain lashed the city and adjoining areas on Wednesday. Meteorologists attributed this to the delayed withdrawal of the southwest monsoon. They also predicted that spells of rainfall will continue till the weekend.
Rainfall after September 30 is considered unseasonal. However, this year, India Meteorological Department’s Santacruz observatory, representative of the suburbs, recorded 117.7 mm rain from October 1 to the morning of October 12. During the same period, the Colaba observatory, representative of south Mumbai, recorded 173 mm rain.
