Residents say it is hard to believe BMC’s claim that they will open the full bridge before the monsoon arrives

Residents of Andheri and Vile Parle are doubting BMC’s claim that the second side of the Gokhale bridge will be open to the public before the monsoon. Though some work is in progress on the railway portion, work on the approach roads from both sides of the railway tracks is not even 50 per cent complete. The girders also haven’t reached the site, and the repairing work of the Teli Galli flyover and levelling work of the Barfiwala bridge have not been completed.
The long-pending work of the Gokhale bridge has become a topic of discussion since the residents have to take a long and congested route via the Andheri subway or Captain Vinayak Gore flyover to reach their office or home. Though the BMC is working at full capacity to start one side of the flyover within the next 10 days—by February 25—the residents fear traffic jams if only two lanes are open for vehicles.
