He offered to work before me saying I might be scared of the height, and died. I am alive today because of him,” said a disturbed Aftab Ansari, a nephew of Noor Alam, 35, one of the two workers who died when a glass-washing lift collapsed from the 17th floor of a recently built Worli high-rise, Avighna House, on Monday evening. Jameel Ahmed, 24, was the other worker who died. Both the workers were taken to the civic-run Nair hospital but a doctor declared them dead on arrival. An ADR was registered and so far the police have not registered an FIR.
Ansari, 18, a resident of Sonapur, Bhandup said, “For the past six months I have been working with Noor Alam, my uncle, who is the supervisor. I work as a helper making materials during construction and also do stone cutting. On Monday I was assigned to go to the lift and do the cleaning work, but the work was risky and at a great height, so my uncle told me to wait while he went first, because I might get scared due to the height. Later the lift crashed and both were grievously injured. Allah gave him a place in heaven. Because of him I am alive.” Alam was a resident of Lalanpur Mau district, Uttar Pradesh.
