Kandivli woman told she 'won Rs 35 lakh'; gets conned by 'KBC officer'

The woman paid Rs 25,000 as tax and a penalty of Rs 40,000 for giving wrong information to the government, in order to get the Rs 35 lakh which she thought she won in lottery

A Mumbai woman has approached police claiming she was conned of Rs 83,000 by unidentified caller/s who said she had won a Rs 35 lakh lottery, an official said on Monday, September 30, 2019. Ameerunnissa Abdul Kalam Sheikh (25), a Kandivali resident, told police she got calls from numbers that flashed as 'KBC officer' and 'Government of India' on her cellphone, he said.
