The security of women in Mumbai has again been called into question after a brutal case of rape and attempted murder at one of the most secure areas of MIDC. The two accused, identified by the police as Mohammad Shaikh (34) and Chandan Jaiswal (19), working at Bharat Gas, have been arrested for allegedly raping and robbing a 19-year old woman, in her residence at Andheri (E).
The complainant had recently shifted to Mumbai with her husband of six months and is residing in MIDC area. The husband works in a private firm and her brother-in-law stays with them. One the day of the incident, her husband left for office, leaving her alone in the house. Around 4 pm, the two accused rang her doorbell and entered her flat on the pretext of repairing the regulator. The survivor knew them as they had delivered gas cylinders to her house a couple of times, and allowed them to enter the house.
