BMC plans to expand the sewage network by 236.87 km
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has succeeded in developing a sewage network spanning 146 km in the city. Presently the sewage network in the city covers an area of 2,061 km catering to 77.8 per cent of the population.
In the fiscal year 2016-17, the BMC initiated the Mumbai Sewage Improvement Program (MSIP), to transform the entire city into a sewage network. As of January 2017, the city already had a 1,915 km sewage network. Under the MSIP, the BMC plans to construct and expand a sewage network by 236.87 km, intending to connect the entire city with this system. This development encompasses both existing developed roads and planned roads yet to be developed.
