Initiative aimed at making treatment accessible to patients suffering from kidney, bladder and prostate cancer at minimal cost

Dean Dr Mohan Joshi inaugurates the dedicated uro-oncology OPD at Sion hospital on Thursday
Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital, popularly known as Sion hospital, became the first civic hospital in the state to start a dedicated urologic oncology outpatient department (OPD). With this, patients suffering from kidney, bladder and prostate cancer can avail treatment at a minimal cost.
Dr Prakash Pawar, professor, department of urology, said, “Cases of prostate cancer, bladder cancer, and other genitourinary system malignancies are going up. In a year, we operate on around 200 patients, but there was no separate OPD for it. So, under the guidance of Dean Dr Mohan Joshi, the urology department has taken the initiative to start the dedicated OPD.”
