Gaps in sewer grating had widened due to broken bars and some other students had also been hurt a few days back, say Borivli locals who helped rescue the Std IV student

Locals and social workers get the child’s leg out of the damaged grating outside Don Bosco school; A new grating was fixed the same day by BMC
A Std IV student had a harrowing experience when his leg was trapped in a broken sewer grating, right outside his school in Borivli West. The boy’s leg had twisted, but his injuries were minor, said local residents and social workers who rescued him with the help of parents of other school children. The incident happened outside Don Bosco school on Tuesday afternoon.
According to locals, the boy is not the first victim. The grating was missing a few bars, which had created wider gaps. A few days ago, two-three students were hurt when their legs got stuck. Ayush Saiya, a Yuva Sena member, said, “I received a call from a parent that a boy’s leg was stuck in a grating outside Don Bosco school. I rushed there and took the help of the local residents and parents. It took us about 10 minutes to pull his leg out of the broken grating.”
