As Mumbaikars celebrate festivals amid a threat of third Covid-19 outbreak, new infections see a significant rise in Wadala, Sion, Parel, Dadar and Byculla

With the city celebrating festivals amid the threat of third Covid-19 wave, cases have been on the rise across the city, but central Mumbai — Wadala, Sion, Parel, Dadar and Byculla — has seen higher growth in new infections in the past seven days. As per the civic body’s figures, between August 19 and 25, F South ward (Parel, Lalbaug) reported 65 new cases, which rose significantly to 115 between August 26 and September 1. Figures rose in other areas as well.
The number of new Covid-19 cases in Byculla stood at 109 between August 26 and September 1, significantly up from 82 between August 19 and 25. In F North ward (Wadala and Sion), cases rose to 128 in the week ending September 1 from 91 between August 19 and 25. In the western suburbs, the H West ward (Bandra to Santacruz) has also registered a rise in new cases over the past seven days.
