Thane: Sculptor arrested for gold chain snatching in local train

The sculptor in Thane`s Kalyan resorted to theft to get easy money as he could not sustain the entire year on his earnings from peak season.

The Kalyan Government Railway Police arrested a sculptor for stealing a woman`s gold chain while she was on a local train. The police, backed by CCTV evidence, quickly arrested the perpetrator, who has a history of criminal activity and turned to theft owing to a lack of opportunities.
The incident occurred on April 24 at Vasind Railway Station, near Kalyan. The 19-year-old woman standing near the footboard was targeted as the train slowed. The accused seized the opportunity and stole her gold chain before escaping. The victim, initially ignorant of the perpetrator`s identity, reported the theft to Kalyan GRP who began a probe into the case.
