Police on Monday arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy in the toilet of a mall at Vashi in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/navi-mumbai-case-against-man-for-raping-teen-whom-he-befriended-on-social-media-23305944" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Navi Mumbai</a>, an official told news agency PTI.
The incident took place on Sunday evening when the boy visited the mall with his friends, the official told PTI.
The 25-year-old accused, who is an auto-rickshaw driver, took the boy to a toilet located on the mall`s ground fall where he sexually assaulted him, inspector Sanjay Nale from <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-4-year-old-girl-crushed-to-death-under-cement-bench-at-park-in-navi-mumbai-23305874" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Vashi police station</a> told PTI.
The boy later managed to escape and informed his parents about the incident.
His family approached the police with a complaint and the accused was arrested, the official said.
The accused was booked under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official told PTI.
Meanwhile, the Navi Mumbai police have registered a case against a man for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl repeatedly following which she became pregnant, an official told PTI on Monday.
According to PTI, the police said the accused, from Kamothe in Navi Mumbai, and the victim, resident of Turbhe area, got in touch with each other through social media platform Instagram in January 2021 and had an affair.
The accused allegedly raped the girl repeatedly at his residence following which she became pregnant in May 2023, an official from Kamothe police station told PTI.
The man`s mother was aware of everything, but she did not object to the offence, he said.
Based on a complaint by the victim, the police on Sunday registered a case against the man and his mother under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, the official told PTI.
In another incident, A woman from Maharashtra`s Palghar district was allegedly repeatedly raped by a man, who shot a video of the act and circulated it on social media, police told PTI on August 22.
The police on August 21 registered an offence under section 376(2)(n) (rape committed repeatedly on the same woman) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology (IT) Act&nbsp; against the accused man and two others for their involvement in the crime, an official told PTI.
The accused befriended the victim, who is married. He repeatedly raped the woman and shot a video of her, which he then circulated on social media, the official told PTI.
The woman approached the police with a complaint after she found out about the video, the official told PTI, adding that no arrest has been made in the case so far.
