Western Railway`s RPF has focused its efforts on combating the theft of passengers` belongings on both suburban and long-distance trains, an official said

Western Railway`s Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel have demonstrated exceptional performance in curbing passenger-related crimes, including theft and robbery, with the help of an extensive CCTV surveillance network. Under Operation Yatri Suraksha, the RPF has apprehended 674 individuals involved in passenger theft cases from January 2023 to September 20, 2023. These efforts have significantly contributed to enhancing passenger safety and security, an official statement said on Wednesday.
According to a press release by Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the RPF has focused its efforts on combating the theft of passengers` belongings on both suburban and long-distance trains. Utilizing crime intelligence and leveraging Operation Yatri Suraksha, Western Railway has installed a total of 3,857 CCTV cameras, including 488 cameras equipped with Facial Recognition System (FRS) technology. The FRS contains critical information about criminals, including their photographs, to effectively combat crimes against passengers.
