The Palghar Police in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-two-booked-for-posting-derogatory-content-on-social-media-in-thane-23305196" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Maharashtra</a> have busted a gang and arrested its five members, the police said on Wednesday, according to the PTI.
The five arrested members were allegedly part of a gang of dacoits, the police said, reported the PTI.
Two policemen from Wada police station in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/palghar-articles" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Palghar</a> were injured during the operation, said an official.
The local police got an alert about suspected dacoits entering a closed factory of Meta Field Pvt Ltd at Met village on August 21 and a team rushed there, the district superintendent of police Balasaheb Patil told the PTI.
When a police team reached there around 3.30 pm, the dacoits tried to escape, he said.
As the police chased them, the dacoits threws stones, injuring constables Babasaheb Gughe and Chetan Sonawane, he said.
Some dacoits jumped into the river but constable Sonawane and a few villagers also jumped into the water and nabbed them.
The arrested men were identified as Ravab Barkulla Shah (60), Miraj Noormohammad Shah (21), Vaibhav Ravindra Jadhav (24), Abdul Kalam Samiullah Khan (38) and Chirag Arun Patil (22), all residents of Palghar and Thane districts.
Gas cutters were seized from their possession, indicating that they were planning to carry out a robbery, the SP said, adding that further probe was on.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, the police have arrested four persons and claimed to have busted a gang involved in stealing motorbikes in Bhiwandi area of Maharashtra`s Thane district, reported the PTI.
Eleven stolen motorbikes have also been seized from the possession of the accused, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II), Bhiwandi, Navnath Dhavle told reporters on Tuesday evening.
He said there were a number of cases of motorbike theft in Bhiwandi.
The police worked on several leads including CCTV footage, as well as intelligence and technical inputs, the official said.
Over the last couple of days, the police arrested four persons, he said.
The police seized 11 stolen motorbikes valued at Rs 3.35 lakh from their possession, the official said.
