Police have registered a case against two brothers for allegedly duping a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/kalyan-hawkers-tip-off-cops-on-man-buying-fruits-with-fake-notes-23348242" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane transporter</a> of Rs 22.50 lakh in Maharashtra`s Thane city, an official said, reported news agency PTI.
The two accused worked as operations manager and goods loading in-charge with the Thane transporter`s firm.
Since March, the accused duo fabricated payment details of the company`s truck and <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-crime-branch-foils-dollar-exchange-scam-23348246" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">trailer drivers</a> working and allegedly drew payments of vehicle cleaners while no such persons worked with the Thane transporter, the official from Naupada police station said, reported PTI.
This came to light during the inspection and audit of the firm`s accounts.
The two accused later fled from their residence in Thane and took away the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/thane-civic-body-defrauded-of-rs-5-lakh-fir-registered-23348184" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">mobile phones</a> and a laptop given to them for official use, thus duping the transporter collectively of Rs 22.50 lakh, the police said, reported PTI.
Following a complaint by the transport firm`s owner, the police on Tuesday registered a case against the two accused under Indian Penal Code sections 408 (criminal breach of trust), 379 (theft) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), the official said.
In another case, a 48-year-old coaching class owner in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-coaching-class-owner-duped-of-over-rs-1-88-cr-in-share-trading-whatsapp-group-scam-23348182" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane district</a> was duped of more than Rs 1.88 crore in a share trading scam that started with the membership of a WhatsApp group, police said on Wednesday, reported PTI.
As per the complainant, an unidentified person added him to the WhatsApp group `STOCK Vanguard (F)` in March, said an official.
The group had 170 members and advice about share trading used to be posted there, he told police.
The complainant found the advice trustworthy and invested money in the recommended shares, following which he was added to another group, `STOCK-Vanguard-VIP`, the official said, reported PTI.
Three persons, who identified themselves as Isha, Divya, and Raj Rupani, contacted him, showed him some kind of `SEBI certificate` to gain his trust, and told him that he could make huge profits by investing through an app called CINVEN/IC SERVICES, the complainant said, reported PTI.
He invested more than Rs 1.88 crore, but when he demanded his money back, there was no response, he claimed.
A case of cheating under Indian Penal Code section 420 (cheating) was registered at Vitthalwadi police station but no arrests have been made yet, officials said.
