Nominations for the 95th Academy Awards were announced by Allison Williams and Riz Ahmed last evening. Three Indian films managed to get in the final five. Naatu naatu, which triumphed at the Golden Globes earlier this month, seems to be on a roll, MM Keeravani’s peppy composition from SS Rajamouli’s RRR, featuring Ram Charan and Junior NTR earned the nod in Best Original Song category. The other contenders are Applause (Tell It Like A Woman), Hold my hand (Top Gun: Maverick), Lift me up (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and This is a life (Everything Everywhere All At Once).
Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes clinched the nomination in the Best Documentary Feature Film Category. Revolving around two brothers who have made it their lives’ mission to rescue and treat injured birds, especially the Black Kites, it has already won awards at the Sundance Film Festival and Cannes International Film Festival. It vies with All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, Fire of Love, A House Made of Splinters and Navalny for the top spot.
