Why Hugh Jackman never used steroids to become Wolverine

Reportedly, Jackman will return as Wolverine in the next Deadpool 3 film from Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite announcing in 2015 that Logan (2017) would be his last movie as Wolverine

Hugh Jackman packed on pounds of muscle to portray the legendary character of Wolverine in various X-Men movies, but he recently admitted to Chris Wallace on HBO’s Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace that he never used steroids to transform into the character.
“No, I love my job and I love Wolverine. I got to be careful [because] I had been told anecdotally what the side effects would be. So no, I just did it the old school way. I’ve eaten more chickens — I’m so sorry to all the vegans and vegetarians and to the chickens of the world. Literally the karma is not good for me. If the deity has anything related to chickens, I’m in trouble,” said Jackman.
