Impossible Mission ForceYup I watched to write on this film in its Hindi dubmdashwhere else in the world can you Also forever Irsquove believed Tom Cruise to be a desiBollywood star trapped in the wrong country Wanted to hear him speak Hindi to confirmAnd this isnrsquot only because of his height smile skintone and jetblack hair can easily pass off for a North Indian goodlookerItrsquos obviously got everything to do with his career choices throughout his phased careermdashfrom romcoms graduating to action thrillers Notably the Mission Impossible series that seems a 70slevel Bollywood blockbuster only scaled to impossible heights of VFXtech and incredulityIt feels like comfort foodfilm then Right down to the grand gettogether in lsquoaiyashi ka denrsquo for the preclimax where villains vet each other in Venice as women dance around The only thing missing is the lsquoitem songrsquo That Beta Tom must fix at some pointThe plot here centres on two keys that must meet in order to open an unknown lock that we know nothing about besides that it can unleash power enough to ldquobring the world to its kneesrdquoThe keys travel between mercenary owners As does the irrepressible Ethan on the merciless huntmdashfrom Amsterdam ldquoArabian desertrdquo UAE Australian Alps Romehellip The upgraded twist is that wersquore dealing in cryptocurrencies and for all you know the AIalgorithm could be the main villainThe way to avoid such a foreseeable catastrophemdashand let this be the lesson for the worldmdashis to go progressively electronicanalogue in your dealings Rather than rely on everything digital that is so easy to trace and trap Which is precisely what the American intelligence has begun to do going back to landlines and cassette recorders if pull your face out to verifyThe obvious moneyshot takes place on a train with EthanTom chasing it down from the mountains as he jumps off the cliff on his bike and the parachute glides him in Say whatIs there a box that Beta Tom hasnrsquot ticked for his fans Well if you are one surely what yoursquoll look out for is him running Just running Itrsquos the Tom Cruise 61 thriller thing isnrsquot it He sprints as if unbolted unhinged like Boltmdashnot once even vaguely panting when he gets on the phone right after Love itI donrsquot know at what point Hollywood decided to steer away from its wellpaid starsystem to wholly invest in superhero franchises They certainly never told Beta Tom the superhero without superpowers about it And he carried on running a theme park of his ownmdashsaving the universe on occasion from an overload of Marvel maybeSurely itrsquos a chickenegg questionmdashyet if you replace Tom who wersquove grown up on the big screen with itrsquod be hard to digest such madness with a youngernewbie alternative One feels the same about Bollywood probably Whatrsquos Shah Rukh Khan if not closely followingtaking the Tom Cruise trajectoryThat he sits with Salman in Pathaan 2023 boasting about how younger stars canrsquot take their place yet is vanity alright But it emerges from the comfort of vintage alone Keanu Reeves John Wick is the other oldworld star with similar credWith some people on the giant screen you simply donrsquot mind murmuring under the breath ldquoKuch bhi Whatever seriouslyrdquo And happily move onSame with this picture Not that anybodyrsquos asking for intellectmdashitrsquos probably more puerile in its plotting than I expected still Tomrsquos Top Gun reboot 2022 is a masterpiece in comparison Donrsquot know why Mission ImpossiblemdashGhost Protocol 2011 remains my favourite from the franchise stillAnd if you go ldquoMehrdquo while streaming out of this MI be ready donrsquot be surprised But itrsquos Tom Callinrsquo And this is merely Part One of Dead Reckoning Will save the next for IMAXAs for this Hindi dubmdashldquochetaavnirdquo warning ldquoaakarrdquo shape ldquosandigdhrdquo suspiciousmdashwhen yoursquore familiar with the original language and the Hindi film star is not on the screenhellip Arrey doesnrsquot cut it bhai
