The first glimpse of Vicky Kaushal on celluloid one can remember or recall is Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet in 2015. He even assisted the filmmaker on his two-part crime drama Gangs of Wasseypur that came out in 2012. Two more collaborations happened in the form of Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016) and Manmarziyaan (2018).
In a nearly tell-all interview with Mayank Shekhar for Sit With Hitlist, Vicky revealed how and when he faced the camera for the first time, and how Anurag asked him ‘Item number karega?’ When asked if he faced the camera for the first time for director Michael Winterbottom, the actor said, "Yes, that was the first time I faced the camera, and you could see my face! Michael Winterbottom was making a film called Trishna, with Freida Pinto. We`d just finished shooting Gangs in March, 2011, and I had these braces, and was an AD. I had gone to my native place in Punjab with family, when I got a call from Anurag Kashyap, and he said, "Item number karega (Will you do an item number)?" I was like, what? He said, it`s a Michael Winterbottom film, and Huma [Qureshi] and I will dance, and that he`s acting in it as well, it`ll be fun."
