Tapas Relia on his latest track, Laazmi, that tackles heartbreak with electronic pop, and hard-hitting notes

Tapas Relia
Amid a packed schedule that has him score for Nagesh Kukunoor’s web series, City of Dreams, and Pushan Kriplani’s Goldfish, starring Kalki Koechlin and Neena Gupta, Tapas Relia had been stealing time for a passion project — a track that employs rock music to narrate the tale of heartbreak.
“Laazmi is an electronic pop song. It is contemporary with a hook that merges well with the verses. Everyone will relate to the lyrics. The USP of this song is its arrangement, and the manner in which it was rendered. While songs on heartbreak are almost always melancholic, we used instruments like guitars, pianos, flutes, and strings, which are [not related to such tracks]. Laazmi has heavy beats. Manoj Yadav, a long-time friend, penned some hard-hitting lines, and, to do justice to them, I had to render it dynamically, with highs and lows. It was painful, and I couldn’t speak for a few hours after the dubbing session.”
