The Supreme Court ruling on triple talaq will start a new chapter in empowerment of Muslim women in India, say Bollywood celebrities who hailed the verdict on Tuesday.
The apex court, by a 3:2 majority judgment, held triple talaq being practised by the Muslim community as 'unconstitutional', "arbitrary" and "not part of Islam".
Here's what some Bollywood celebrities commented on the judgement:
Shabana Azmi: I welcome the Supreme Court judgement on instant Triple Talaq. Its a victory 4 brave Muslim women who hve waged battle against it for years
Ajay Devgn: This decision had been in the waiting for a long time. I am very happy to know the judgement on triple talaq and I am sure everyone else is happy too.
