With Character Dheela on everyone's lips, music director Pritam has once again topped the charts with the latest Salman Khan release. "It's a superb feeling as this is my first Salman Khan film," says the rockstar composer. A self-confessed workaholic, Pritam who celebrates his birthday on June 14, says he wants to slow down in the coming year. CS spoke to him about his stupendous success, birthday plans and low profile persona:
Living a dream
Though I come from a musical family, we weren't connected to the film industry in any way. I studied at Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) to become a sound engineer. But I was always passionate about music, and had the desire to create a music album. I just wanted that one album to my name. You won't believe it, till date I have done sound engineering for just a single project, and I have composed for jingles, serials and now films. It seems like God knew what I really wanted to do, and conspired my career accordingly. People keep asking me about Emraan Hashmi and my super-hit jodi, but I must say that Emraan is very lucky with his songs. I never expected half of those numbers to be such chart-toppers.u00a0
Blow the candles
While I may take a day off after my birthday, there's no way I can skip work on that day. I am a shy person who doesn't like huge parties. Last year, I went off to Dubai for work, so having a birthday party was out of the question.u00a0 A couple of days after I reached Dubai, I got a call from my wife saying that there was a murder in our house. I rushed back home only to know that it was a ploy by my wife, Smita to get me home for a surprise birthday party. This year, I want to gift myself a long holiday as I have been working non-stop for the last five years -- a nice spa break maybe. Actually, a trip where I get to sleep for long hours would be perfect. On a serious note, I need to slow down to pay attention to my health and two kids.
Simple at heart
You see, I just can't do any show-sha. Even today, I travel in rickshaws if need be. I used to take the local trains till five years ago. I seriously don't want to spoil myself. If I start acting flamboyant, I would have to put on that fa ade 24x7, which is dreadful. I am a simple guy and have a simple lifestyle too. I can sleep without AC (in fact I hate it), and can eat from any restaurant or food stall. I don't want branded clothes for my appearances on shows. The only thing I need is a good place to sleep. Money has never been on my agenda.u00a0
