Manipur has been witnessing violence since May 3, following the protests by the Kuki and Naga communities against the High Court`s order asking the state government to consider the inclusion of the Meitei community in the category of Scheduled Tribes (ST). Only STs can buy lands in hilly areas. A video of 2 women being paraded naked in strike-torn Manipur has left citizens in shock. Several politicians have condemned the act of violence against women in the state and have asked for strict actions against the culprit. Earlier, actors Akshay Kumar, Urmila Matondkar and Sonu Sood had also condemned the same. Now, Jaya Bachchan, the actress and Rajya Sabha member has also responded to the violence.
Jaya Bachchan found the video to be utterly shameful and distressing, and she revealed that she couldn`t bear to watch the entire footage due to the overwhelming feeling of shame it evoked. She spoke to news agency ANI in Hindi, stating that this horrific incident took place in May, but it had only gained traction after going viral. Despite the gravity of the situation, she pointed out the lack of sympathy from others regarding this incident, emphasizing that it highlights the issue of women`s safety.
