The 54th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) kicked off on Monday at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Taleigao-Goa.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Singh Thakur, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Minister for State of Information and Broadcasting L Murugan and others were present on the occasion.
‘Special recognition for contribution to Indian cinema’ award was bestowed to Bollywood actor Madhuri Dixit. Anurag Singh Thakur said that our movies are more than just entertainment. “They are a significant part of how we live,” he said. He said that this year IFFI received a record number of 2,926 entries from 105 countries, which is three times more than the international submissions than last year. “This shows the success IFFI has received,” he said.
