Legendary composer and singer Bappi Lahiri passed away at 69 at a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday. Mourned by fans around the world, he was known for composing songs including `Hari Om Hari` and ‘Jimmy Jimmy’, and lending his voice to hits such as ‘Yaar Bina Chain Kaha Re’ and more recently ‘Ooh La La’. India’s ‘Disco King’ and renowned composer-singer Bappi Lahiri passed away at 69 in Mumbai Wednesday due to multiple health conditions, including Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Known for his unique singing style and for adding electronic sounds to his music, ‘Bappi Da’ as he is called, is the first to ignite the disco music trend in Bollywood. Over the years, he collaborated with many artists including Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, late Lata Mangeshkar, Usha Uthup and Vijay Benedict among others.
While he has composed music for films in many languages including Hindi, Bengali and Telugu, the songs for the latter are the most popular. He created a niche for himself in the disco music genre, which earned him a massive reputation in the 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond.
